Our team in Essen currently has an opening for a Category Manager (m/f/d) Transportation EMEA 

YOUR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Indirect Procurement Category Manager Transportation EMEA is responsible for the development and execution of strategic initiatives in all related subcategories, including road and intermodal transportation as well as ocean freight. Specific responsibilities include development and global alignment of category strategies, supplier negotiations, identification, implementation and documentation of cost saving initiatives, strategic sourcing and application of procurement tools and levers, demand review, management and process development, and overall management of supplier relationships. This is a cross-functional role that will interact with various other functions across the business as internal customers across EMEA. Category Managers also maintain regular interaction and alignment with other subject matter experts in the category from the rest of the Globe.

  • Designs sourcing strategies that improve cost, lead times, working capital, payment terms, and transparency of spend, in alignment with the Global Transportation strategy.
  • Develops supplier relationships to provide world-class service and products in coordination across multiple businesses.
  • Establishes and maintains proactive communication with internal stakeholders to identify cost saving opportunities.
  • Researches and identifies capable vendors or contractors and initiates selection, qualification, and approval of new vendors in alignment with Brenntag Strategic Procurement Process.
  • Evaluates vendor performance and resolves any supplier issues.
  • Manages preparation and maintenance of Request for Information, Request for Quotes, and Request for Proposals through delivery and project completion.
  • Assist cross-functional teams in defining project scope.
  • Develops, manages and monitors Master Service Agreements.
  • Collects, analyzes, and assures quality and accuracy of the spend analysis where applicable.
  • Establishes and maintains proactive communication with relevant category managers from other regions to align category strategies and to ensure knowledge sharing.
  • Maintains files and communicates non-conformance issues internally and with vendors.
  • Educates others on procurement policies and procedures.
  • Negotiates spot purchases and agreements.
  • Enters, monitors, maintains and checks compliance purchase orders and contracts.
  • Proactively resolves issues relating to risk, schedule, TCO and invoice verification and processing as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies and all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to: Brenntag Code of
  • Business Conduct & Ethics, Antitrust Compliance Policy, Confidentiality Agreement, Global Indirect Procurement Policy etc.
  • Supports the vision and mission of the company and its procurement department.
  • Regularly reports on market development and procurement performance in the category.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Proven ability in utilizing and leveraging e-sourcing/procurement systems
  • Experience in spend analysis, contract development and execution
  • Ability to develop best practice sourcing methodology and category strategies
  • Excellent teaming, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong quantitative and data analysis skills
  • Business English proficiency, ideally cross-cultural experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in procurement, supply chain, engineering, business administration, information systems and/or related fields. MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sourcing/buying of indirect categories or related
  • Read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, basic reports, procedure manuals, and scientific and technical journals.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, and/or other complex documents.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, customers, managers, and/or other employees.
  • Speak, read, write, communicate in English.

  • Strategic sourcing procurement software (e.g. CSO, Freightender, Transporeon, Ariba, Coupa, etc.)
